After sitting on the sidelines for nearly a year, Maycee Barber is gearing up for her Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) return. According to Milenio, “The Future” is lined up to face Alexa Grasso at a scheduled “Fight Night” event on Feb. 13, 2021.
Barber was last seen losing to Roxanne Modafferi this past January at UFC 246 via unanimous decision. During the fight, Maycee suffered a torn ACL, which ultimately forced her to undergo surgery and ride the pine for the remainder of 2020. The loss to “Happy Warrior” was the first of her pro mixed martial arts (MMA) career.
Barber was touted as the next Ronda Rousey — though she didn’t care much about the comparisons — after starting her career at 8-0, including winning her first four UFC fights via knockout. The loss was a huge setback in her progress but a win over Grasso would put her right in the mix.
Grasso, meanwhile, is coming off a win over Ji Yeon Kim a UFC Vegas 8, her first win in nearly a year. The Mexican-born fighter has been unable to garner much momentum during her time with UFC, alternating wins and losses since making her debut in 2016 to the tune of earning a 4-3 record.
No other fights are currently booked for the ESPN+-streamed event, but keep it tuned to MMAmania for further updates.
