UFC president Dana White no longer wants to see Mauricio “Shogun” Rua compete inside the Octagon.
UFC 255 marked the 40th professional fight and 22nd UFC appearance for Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. And in the rarest moment of his storied career, the former light heavyweight champion tapped out due to strikes to opponent Paul Craig in the second round of their rematch.
Seeing Rua lose in such a dominant fashion didn’t sit well with Dana White, who now wants the 38-year-old Brazilian fighter to call it quits.
“I hope that tonight was his last night. I would like to see him retire,” White said of Rua during the post-fight media scrum.
“Just being honest, Shogun didn’t look like Shogun to me tonight. Shogun looked old and looked like a shell of his former self tonight.
“I think he has two fights left on his deal, but yeah, I’d like to see him retire,” he added.
Shogun is now 2-2-1 in his last five fights, and he holds an overall win-loss slate of 27-12-1.
