Darren Till has refused to reveal what went on in his spar with Mike Perry in 2018.
Darren Till and Mike Perry had a hilarious encounter in 2018 over a ‘spa’-rring session that caught the Liverpudlian off guard. Two years on and Till has cleared the air on what went down between the two.
Till and Perry first clashed heads after Till’s win against Donald Cerrone at UFC Gdansk in 2017. The following year the two were staying in the same L.A hotel which led to them sparring. Till said on “Anything Goes with James English” that despite what Perry has said about the spar, he will never reveal what happened.
“I’ll never, ever say,” Till said. “Never, ever say. I don’t think—he’s actually said loads of times, ‘I beat Darren, I busted his face up.’ If that makes him feel good and sleep at night, that’s great for him, but this is the thing. I could go to Tyson Fury’s gym now and beat him up in a spar – he’s actually come to my gym and we sparred and I took him down, I’m an MMA fighter – [and] imagine me going around saying, ‘I beat Tyson in a boxing spar today.’ That spar means absolutely f—k all, jacks—t, you didn’t get paid for it. No one’s seen it. Sparring’s different. You don’t have the nerves, the crowd, everything involved.”
The back and forth between the two fighters has continued since, with Perry blocking the Liverpudlian off of social media. This didn’t stop Till from wanting to corner Perry for his fight against Mickey Gall, as he was willing to pay $5,000 to do so.
“For me to sit here and go, ‘I won Mike Perry in the spar,’ that’s bulls—t, because even if I did or I didn’t it doesn’t mean a thing, because we could fight and he could just go ‘boomf,’ knock me clean out. What really matters? The spar that I beat on him or the knockout that he just placed on me in front of everyone? He’s come out and said loads of times, ‘I battered Darren in that spar.’”
Till concluded by saying that although he loves his “tit-for-tat” feud with Perry, a fight between the two in the UFC would never materialise as Perry is too far away from Till in terms of competition.
