After a couple of failed attempts to face off against Rafael dos Anjos inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon, Islam Makhachev will now shift his attention to fellow Lightweight contender, Drew Dober.

That’s according to ESPN’s Brett Okamato, who reports that the promotion is currently working on putting the fight together. While not yet official, the fight is in line to go down at the scheduled UFC 259 pay-per-view (PPV) event on March 6, 2021. And while there is no confirmed location, Las Vegas, Nevada and “Fight Island” are the top two likely destinations.

Makhachev is currently riding a six-fight win streak and hasn’t tasted defeat in nearly five years. All in all, the Russian-born fighter has amassed a highly-impressive 18-1 mark, with his lone loss coming against Adriano Martins at UFC 192.

Dober, meanwhile, is 6-1 in his last seven outingS and is currently the proud owner of a three-fight win streak, most recently defeating Alexander Hernandez via second round knockout this past May.

UFC 259 currently includes a Bantamweight bout between former division champion, Dominick Cruz, making his long-awaited return to face Casey Kenney. Also on the card, Joseph Benavidez will face off against Askar Askarov, and Aleksandar Rakic will be taking on Thiago Santos.
