Here’s how Ryan Garcia bounced back from an early knockdown to stop Luke Campbell in a thriller.
Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) had to overcome the first knockdown of his career to win an absolute thriller against Olympic gold medalist and two-time world lightweight title challenger Luke Campbell (20-4 16 KOs).
In front of 6,000 fans at American Airlines Center in Dallas, the 22-year-old rising star was floored by Campbell in the second round on a heavy left hand. Garcia recovered from that shot and hurt Campbell towards the end of round five in what was a very compelling contest. Then in round seven, Garcia uncorked a wicked left to the liver that would put Campbell down on a knee… then both knees, then unable to recover in time. A dramatic turnaround and a knockout win that puts Garcia in line for a title shot versus WBC champion Devin Haney (25-0, 15 KOs), who twice beat him in the US amateurs.
Watch the highlights below, including the spectacular finish that solidifies Garcia as more than just hype.
