Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight title contender Bethe Correia was forced to put her retirement fight on hold after being rushed to the hospital for “emergency surgery.”
The 37 year-old “Pitbull,” who was scheduled to meet bantamweight bruiser Wu Yanan on Jan. 16 via Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, had her appendix yanked out after being taken to a local hospital in “unbearable pain.”
Yanan is expected to be rebooked for a later date.
“I was training so hard for this fight however in the middle of the night I started to feel an unbearable pain,” Correia wrote on social media. “I was admitted to the hospital and I was diagnosed with appendicitis. The doctors advised me and my family that it was a severe case and that I would require an emergency surgery. My last dance and my retirement fight will have to be postponed for a little while, I cannot wait to put on amazing performance for you guys.”
A timeline for her recovery has yet to be determined.
