As promised, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who may or may not be retired (depending on who you ask), flew to “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi to meet with promotion president Dana White.
Behind closed doors, of course.
White is expected to offer “The Eagle” one more championship fight, though it’s unknown what ace the Las Vegas fight boss may have in his back pocket considering Nurmagomedov already laid waste to most of the 155-pound division.
Among his victims are Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, who compete at UFC 257 a week from Saturday night on pay-per-view (PPV). The winner is expected to be atop a very short list of lightweight title contenders ready to compete for the vacant strap.
Unless White pulls off a miracle today from his posh “W” palace overseas.
There’s always the possibility of something unexpected, like a Georges St-Pierre super fight, but the most likely scenario is Nurmagomedov will keep the promise he made to his mother and stay retired.
We’ll (hopefully) find out later today.
