Matt Brown and Carlos Condit faced off in a Welterweight clash tonight (Sat., Jan. 16, 2021) at UFC Fight Island 7 from “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Following a back-and-forth fight, Condit was named the victor.

Brown pushed forward early, and the two traded low kicks. Brown connected on a solid right hand, followed by another low kick. Good leg chop from Condit. Brown wrapped up a body lock and forced his opponent to the mat. It took some time for Brown to establish control, but he then dropped a couple good elbows from within the guard. Brown was bleeding quite a bit from some strike Condit landed while the two were still standing. Condit active from his back, looking for quick strikes and armbars. Brown kept his top pressure tight, occasionally finding home for good shots. Brown tied up an arm behind Condit’s back and landed a few shots. Condit landed a switch to gain top position, but Brown dove on a leg lock and finished the round from that position.

Condit surged forward with a combination to begin the second. Brown landed a hard elbow over the top moments later. Condit landed a couple kicks. Good right hand from Condit, followed by a body kick. Brown dug a shin to the liver. Brown ripped a couple knees to the body, but Condit answered with some hard hooks. Brown pushed into the clinch, attacking with knees and takedown attempts. Brown broke the clinch with an elbow over the top. Condit scored a slick trip to ground Brown then kept him there with a high-crotch dump. Condit landed a good elbow from within the guard. Condit controlled the rest of the round from top position, sealing it in his favor.

An immediate cup check from Condit began the final round. Condit chopped the lead leg, still looking fresh. Brown clinched up, but he wasn’t able to hang onto “The Natural Born Killer.” Brown briefly foot swept his opponent and landed a right hand, but a bad takedown attempt saw Condit jump onto his back! Brown tried to shake his foe off, but Condit maintained control. Condit moved into side control then mount the back mount once again. Brown escaped with two minutes remaining, driving into a double leg. Condit fell to the mat attempting a kimura, and Brown gained top position. Condit scrambled back to his feet and landed a big elbow. Condit scored a solid double leg, but Brown immediately reversed him! Brown landed a series of good elbows.

At the end of a pretty excellent fight from the two veterans, Condit had done enough to earn the nod. Condit fought hard deep into the fight, and his conditioning edge ultimately seemed to be the deciding factor.

Result: Carlos Condit defeats Matt Brown via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
