Calvin Kattar sustained a few injuries in his loss to Max Holloway at UFC Fight Island 7.
UFC featherweight contender Calvin Kattar took on the toughest test of his professional career in former champion Max Holloway during the main event of UFC Fight Island 7, but came up short after 25-minutes of fighting.
Over the course of five rounds, Kattar was battered by Holloway and ended up losing by way of unanimous decision. In between rounds, it was clear that Kattar had suffered an injury to his nose after it was seen pouring blood profusely. Alongside the nose, Kattar dealt with a cut opened up on the top of his head that continued to bleed as well.
Kattar was taken to a hospital as soon as he left the Octagon, where he had his injuries worked on. In a brief statement to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, Tyson Chartier, who is the head coach and manager of Kattar, revealed his client did indeed suffer a broken nose and needed staples in his head. Chartier also said that Kattar was doing okay after the fact, which was seemingly confirmed in some post-fight comments made by the fighter posted on his Instagram.
As Kattar was being attended to, it was revealed that he would be facing a lengthy medical suspension following the fight. Per MixedMartialArts.com, Kattar was medically suspended for 180 days, but can be cleared by a physician pending approval for his nose. A 60-day suspension with 45 days of no contact was also given.
Kattar had his two-fight win streak snapped in this loss to Holloway. Prior to this, Kattar picked up a knockout over Jeremy Stephens at UFC 249 and an unanimous decision over Dan Ige at UFC Fight Island 1.
