Khabib isn’t the only undefeated Nurmagomedov making headlines this week in Abu Dhabi, thanks to the UFC Fight Island 8 submission victory from cousin Umar. The 24 year-old bantamweight improved to 13-0 with his rear-naked choke over Sergey Morozov on Weds. (Jan. 20, 2021) as part of the ESPN/ESPN+ “Prelims” card.
Nurmagomedov was making his Octagon debut after bouncing around the international circuit for the last five years, which included a pair of fights for Professional Fighters League (PFL). It won’t take long for the Dagestani to rise up the 135-pound ranks if he continues his winning ways.
As for Morozov, this was also his first trip to the Octagon after cutting his teeth in M-1 Global. The 31 year-old Kazakhstan import came into this bout on the strength of a five-fight win streak and drops to 16-5 with the loss.
