Brazilian bruiser Warlley Alves had something to prove against Tunisian “Sniper” Mounir Lazzez in the UFC Fight Island 8 co-main event earlier today (Weds., Jan. 20, 2021) inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Mission accomplished.
Veteran of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Brazil 3 way back in May 2014, Alves, now 30, came out like a man possessed, putting the hurt on Lazzez from the opening bell. A series of brutal body kicks forced referee Herb Dean to call the action less than three minutes into the very first round.
Alves improves to 14-4 with the victory, a nice way to rebound after last November’s stinker against Randy Brown. As for Lazzez, he drops to 10-2 and loses the momentum of his three-fight winning streak.
We certainly haven’t seen the last of these fan-friendly welterweights.
