Warlley Alves and Mounir Lazzez faced off in a Welterweight clash tonight (Wed., Jan. 20, 2021) at UFC Fight Island 8 from “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Alves opened the fight with a heavy low kick and swarm of punches, resulting in a clinch along the fence. Lazzez reversed position, but Alves landed some tight elbows and a spinning back fist. Alves used the overhook to secure a trip takedown. Lazzez returned to his feet smartly. Spinning elbow from Lazzez landed clean! Three hard body kicks from Alves send Lazzez to the mat OUT OF NOWHERE, and the Brazilian swarms to force a finish.
This was precisely the return to form that Warlley Alves needed. He looked to be in better physical shape, which allowed him to really push the pace and attack his opponent. This version of Alves could be something special!
