Get up to date on the main event of UFC 257, as Dustin Poirier rematches Conor McGregor in a lightweight bout.

In the headlining act of UFC 257, Conor McGregor (22-4 MMA, 12-2 UFC) will hope to pick up his first win at 155-pounds in over four years as he faces Dustin Poirier (26-6-1 NC MMA, 18-5-1 NC UFC) in a rematch. UFC 257: Poirier vs. McGregor 2 airs live from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi this Saturday, January 23rd. What have these two done recently?

Poirier: W – Dan Hooker (DEC) | L – Khabib Nurmagomedov (SUB) | W – Max Holloway (DEC)

McGregor: W – Donald Cerrone (TKO) | L – Khabib Nurmagomedov (SUB) | W – Eddie Alvarez (TKO)

How did these two get here?

A fan favorite inside and outside of the Octagon, Dustin Poirier has defeated some of the best lightweights on the UFC roster in the last few years. Three straight finishes over Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez saw Poirier earn his shot at the interim lightweight title, of which he won against Max Holloway. Falling short in the unification bout against the recently retired Khabib Nurmagomedov, Poirier’s rebound win against Dan Hooker in one of 2020’s greatest fights reminded everyone that the “Diamond” is still one of the best at 155-pounds.

Conor McGregor comes into this fight as a mature version of his former self. Now a father of two, the Irishman has faced his fair share of legal troubles outside of the sport in the last few years. The 32-year-old hasn’t fought in over a year, last stopping Donald Cerrone in just 40-seconds at UFC 246. McGregor has been very respectful and humble in the lead up to his rematch with Poirier, a polar opposite to his usual brash self. Without a win at lightweight since 2016, “Notorious” is adamant he is in the best condition of his life heading into UFC 257.

Why should you care?

Both fighters have evolved since their first meeting in 2014, it should be a fascinating fight.
