UFC 257 results: Dustin Poirier starches Conor McGregor

Dustin Poirier just shocked the world by stopping Conor McGregor with strikes in the second-round of the UFC 257 main event.

UFC 257 is officially over and was closed out with a huge upset when former interim lightweight king, Dustin Poirier, stopped former simultaneous featherweight and lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, with strikes in the second-round. It was the low calf kicks that slowed down Conor, and then it was the combination punching that sat down the former champ-champ. A bit of academic ground and pound ensued before the referee stepped in, and Poirier just earned the biggest win of his professional career. This win puts him right at the top of title contention, whether Khabib returns or not.

McGregor brought the pressure right away, but poirier responded by snagging a takedown. Conor scrambled up and scored one of his shoulder strikes. Poirier shoved McGregor against the cage hunting for a takedown, but was unable to get to the fight to the floor. Back in open space, Conor started to land leather and backed up Dustin to the cage.

McGregor clocked Poirier with the first punches he threw in the second round. Dustin worked the low calf kick, causing some redness on the lead leg of McGregor. Just as Conor started to press forward, Poirier unleashed a flurry of punches and he was landing. Conor tried to roll with the punches but there were too many coming his way. Poirier kept throwing and kept landing, sending McGregor crashing to the canvas. He jumped on Conor with ground strikes until the referee stepped in and stopped the match. Wowsers!
