Top welterweights are likely to clash on March 27.

According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto the UFC is finalizing a fight between former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and 10th ranked Vincente Luque. Per Okamoto the fight is being targeted for UFC 260 on March 27.

Woodley last competed in September, at UFC Vegas 11, inside the UFC’s APEX facility. There he lost, via TKO (rib injury), to bitter rival Colby Covington. That was Woodley’s third loss in a row.

Last May he lost to Gilbert Burns, by decision, in a fight that elevated Burns to number one contender status at 170 lbs. Before that Woodley, in March 2019, lost his UFC welterweight title (which he’d held since 2016) in a unanimous decision defeat to current champ Kamaru Usman.

Luque, who made it to the UFC off the back of The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians, is on a two fight winning streak. In August he KO’d Randy Brown and, before that—in May, he TKO’d Niko Price.

Those wins saw Luque rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Stephen Thompson at UFC 244 in November 2019. Before the loss to ‘Wonderboy’ Luque was on a six fight winning streak with victories over Mike Perry, Derrick Krantz and Bryan Barberena.

UFC 260, which has a location TBD, is currently scheduled to feature Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou in the main event. That fight, which is a rematch from 2018, will be for the UFC heavyweight title.

Also scheduled for UFC 260 is a featherweight title fight between champion Alexander Volkanovski and challenger Brian Ortega.
