Welcome to Midnight Mania!

One week ago, Darren Till uploaded a live video of himself in a verbal confrontation with a police officer over a dispute over masks. It got pretty heated, though ultimately ended without arrest or any other elevation. There were still a lot of unknowns though, and Till was happy to discuss the details on Michael Bisping’s Believe You Me podcast.

After filling up on gas at his local station, Till says the police officer in the video accosted him about his mask … or lack there of. That’s when the argument began, and Till broke down how it moved from there (transcription via MMAFighting).

“I went, ‘I don’t need a mask, I’m exempt.’

“He went, ‘What are you exempt for?’

“I told him, ‘I don’t need to tell you, but I’ll tell you. I’ve got sinus issues from a fight.’

“He went to me, ‘Oh, fighting on the street, are we?’

“I went, ‘No, I’m a professional fighter, mate.’

“He went, ‘Well, this is gonna have to be a fine,’

“I said, ‘Is it, yeah? On you f*cking jog off, mate, you muppet.’

So as I’m going to my car, he’s trying to hold me and I said, ‘Mate, don’t you f*cking touch me now.’ I thought this needs to be getting put on film in case these c*nts try and arrest me for [disorderly conduct]. I tried to open my car door and he’s stopping it and I said, ‘Mate, you’re about five-foot-nothing, stop trying to stop my car.’ So I grabbed my phone and I went, ‘You’re going on live Instagram now to protect myself.’”

After Till’s video went fairly viral, Till did explain that he regrets how he handled himself and wouldn’t want anyone to think that’s the proper way to handle police. In this case, however, Till felt a need to stand up for himself opposite an officer who was not looking to help.

“I kept saying—this isn’t on the Live—I kept saying, ‘You’re here to serve us, not to harass us.’ Obviously, it went on a bit and I was just going, ‘Mate, you’re a loser, you’re just a f*ckin’ muppet.’”

Insomnia

This chemical Invisi Smart is supposed to help Team Alpha Male members avoid COVID-19, which is great! Still, clean surfaces are one thing, but it doesn’t appear a solution for various team mates sweating into your eyes.

Run if you’d like, Robert Whittaker is inevitable.

Fedor is out of the hospital!

It’s good to see Bellator is more often allowing its contracted athletes to compete in other promotions during slower times.

Two more UFC PI Shanghai reps join the UFC roster, and “Mongolian Murderer” is already a top-tier nickname!

Ben Askren’s best chance against Jake Paul is to fatigue him and make it ugly. We’ll see if it happens!

Very cool to see Thiago Alves holding mitts for Dustin Poirier! If there’s a man who can help one improve low kicks, it’s “Pitbull.”

Slips, rips, and KO clips

I have not thought about Thiago Silva is a long, long time. Remember when he played drums on Marlon Vera’s back, swapped his pee test with “not human” urine, then also allegedly committed a bunch of crimes with gun in hand? Crazy times.

A somewhat forgotten clip of a slick guillotine choke courtesy of Sean O’Malley!

A very nice pull and return from Southpaw:

A heartwarming tale from the stock market:

Midnight Music: I liked this track from pianist Ahmad Jamal, who’s spent most of the last 70 years (!!!) recording and releasing music.

Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
