KSW took swift action to punish Shamil Musaev and Uros Jurisic following their post-fight actions at KSW 58 last Saturday.
Shamil Musaev and Uros Jurisic have been fined after their post-fight actions at KSW 58.
Musaev and Jurisic fought for all three rounds of their scheduled contest in a very competitive fight between the two undefeated welterweights. At the end of the fight, Musaev was announced as the winner by way of unanimous decision, which saw his overall professional record move to 15-0.
Unfortunately, the performance by Musaev was marred by his own actions that seemed to escalate an already tense situation moments after the decision was read. Jurisic appeared to have a brief dust up with one of Musaev’s cornermen, which the fighter caught wind of. Both men then walked over to one another and exchanged some words before Musaev proceeded to clasp his hands together around the waist of Jurisic, slightly lift him into the air and brought him down to the mat.
Musaev would start throwing punches on the ground before the officials and corners of the fighters rushed in to stop the post-fight brawl. After the situation was dealt with inside of the cage, KSW said the owners and officials of the promotion will be fully reviewing the incident before making their decision on how to respond.
On Wednesday morning, KSW completed their review and released a statement on the punishment they decided to go with for Musaev, Jurisic and those involved in what happened last Saturday.
Musaev and Jurisic were fined 50 and 30 percent of their fight purses respectively. The bonus both men received for their ‘Fight of the Night’ performance will also be withheld.
Abus Magomedov, who was a member of the Musaev corner and fellow KSW competitor, received a six-month suspension from fighting and a year suspension from cornering.
“All the unauthorized persons, who entered the cage after the fight was over, are banned from taking part in the KSW events as members of fighters’ teams,” the statement read. “KSW would like to emphasize that unsportsmanlike behaviour and violations of the federation’s rules by the fighters or members of their teams is completely unacceptable.”
KSW announced the money that is to be kept from Musaev and Jurisic will be donated to the medical treatment of two sick young girls, Laura Paczula and Pola Omielanczuk. Pola is the daughter of Polish MMA veteran, Daniel Omielanczuk.
