Julian Marquez used his moment on the mic following a big UFC 258 win to shoot his shot … and it worked!
Julian Marquez is no stranger to shooting for the moon. After two rounds of getting out-pointed on the scorecards, the Cuban-American fighter went for broke and chased a finish against Maki Pitolo, landing an anaconda choke submission with less than a minute left in their UFC 258 fight.
After, a giddy Marquez once again went big by calling out … Miley Cyrus? For a date? Oh yeah he did.
“I’ve been waiting 31 months to get on this damn mic, and to call these people out right now,” a hyped Marquez declared. “This is my time to shine. So Miley Cyrus, will you be my Valentine?”

Marquez’s UFC 258 walkout music was a Miley cover of Blondie’s Heart of Glass and “The Cuban Missile Crisis” sounds like a legit hardcore Miley fan.
“What’s not to be interested in her?” he said when asked about Miley during the post-fight press conference. “I’m 30 years old, I grew up watching Hannah Montana, ‘Party in the USA.’ We’re sitting here and loving it. She came out with ‘23,’ with Three 6, I’ve been to her concerts many times. She came out with ‘Wrecking Ball,’ I made a big come up after that song, I actually walked out to that song for the Phil Hawes fight. Every time I walk out to Miley, she does something to me to figure out how to win.”
“She’s … my love. I love that woman.”
As for whether he thought his call out would work?
“Oh, like 100%. Have you seen me?” he said with a laugh. “Have you not seen this beautiful beard and this gorgeous smile and these pretty eyes? She’s about to make a song out of me.”
And Marquez was right…

“Shave an MC into your chest hair and I am YOURS,” Miley wrote shortly after the event. “Happy VDay and Congrats my love!”
And the crowd goes wild!

What a night for Julian Marquez. A come from behind win, a Valentine’s Day wish come true, and a $50,000 performance of the night bonus. It doesn’t get much better than that.
