“The Black Beast” Derrick Lewis has named his next opponent of choice.
UFC Vegas 19 on Saturday ended with another knockout win for Derrick Lewis. “The Black Beast” put Curtis Blaydes to sleep with an uppercut in the second round, tying Vitor Belfort for the most knockout wins in UFC history with 12.
As Lewis continues to move up the rankings, he wants the bigger names at heavyweight. The next man on his hit list: decorated veteran Alistair Overeem.
“I want Overeem next. Like I said earlier, I’m already greased and oiled up for him so we ready,” Lewis said during the post-fight presser.
“I don’t care (if) he got a couple of losses in a row. It’ll be cool just to fight him because he’s a so-called legend, so it’ll be cool to fight somebody like that. And also, he’d been talking trash, he’s saying that his teammate Curtis can handle this light weight and stuff like that.”
“We’ve been trying to fight him for years and he turned down the fight four times already. He might take it (this time). He’d been hit in the head a couple of times so he might forget all about what happened tonight.”
A fight between the two elite heavyweights is an instant candidate for a main event fight. Lewis, however, isn’t liking that idea.
“I would like a three-round fight. Just because… I don’t want five rounds,” he said.
“I don’t need no main event. I don’t deserve a main event. I don’t want to go five rounds, I hate five rounds.”
The 40-year-old Overeem is coming off a brutal second-round TKO loss to Alexander Volkov early this month, snapping a two-fight win streak. Lewis, on the other hand, is now on a four-fight win streak, as he also takes home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.
