Jan Blachowicz will defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight title for the first time when he takes on Middleweight kingpin, Israel Adesanya, in the main event of UFC 259 on March 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Before then, let us roll back the hands of time to the night the Polish bruiser won the strap and realized his lifelong dream of becoming UFC champion. Back in September, Blachowicz found himself staring down Dominick Reyes in the co-main event of UFC 253 on “Fight Island” in a fight to crown a new ruler at 205 pounds after Jon Jones vacated the title to make his way up to Heavyweight.

After a fairly even opening round which saw the entirety of the action play out on the feet, Blachowicz really started to open up in the third round, tagging Reyes cleanly, breaking his nose in the process with a minute remaining in the round. Smelling blood, Jan put his foot on the gas pedal, tagging Reyes with a clean one-two combination to put him on wobbly legs.

From there, Blachowicz pounced on his fallen foe and delivered a few follow up shots to force the stoppage, crowning him the new champion at Light Heavyweight. If he can score his first defense against one of the best fighters on the plant and fellow champion, the heavy-handed brawlers stock will go through the roof. And who knows, it may even be enough to entice Jones to come back down to reclaim his belt.
