Snoop Dogg believes in Jake Paul’s boxing credentials.
This week UFC President Dana White went off on Jake Paul’s chances against Ben Askren in their forthcoming boxing match. On Mike Tyson’s podcast White proclaimed that he would bet $1 million that Paul loses the fight.
Paul quickly fired back, offering to double that bet. And now another celebrity has weighed in on the wager, offering to put his money where his mouth is.
TMZ (of course) reports that legendary rapper (and one time UFC commentator) Snoop Dogg wants in on the action.
“Hey Dana White, I see you got faith in your boy right?! Going up against my guy Jake,” said Snoop in a video response to White.
“You say you got a million? You’re the CEO of UFC. You got more than a million. Put up two. Put up $2 million and we’ll match it.”
“C’mon Dana, whatchu waiting on?! Your money is good,” continued Snoop. “Yeah, I got Jake. Fight night. That’s my guy. That’s my dog in the fight. $2 million. Holla at me, Dana White.”
Paul vs. Askren takes place on April 17 and will air on FITE.tv. The event is promoted by Triller. In November Triller hosted Paul’s last fight—versus former NBA player Nate Robinson.
Paul crushed Robinson in that fight, which ended in a scary KO. That win, against the 0-0 Robinson, took Paul’s record to 2-0 as a pro. His first bout was last January, where he defeated fellow YouTuber Ali Eson Gib.
Askren will bring an 0-0 boxing record into the ring when he meets Paul. ‘Funky’ is a highly decorated wrestler who dominated in MMA when he was a member of Bellator and ONE Championship. He held the welterweight title in both of those divisions and defended those belts on numerous occasions.
In 2019 he brought his undefeated record over to the UFC. His Octagon debut was a controversial win over former UFC champion Robbie Lawler. After that Askren was quickly KO’d by Jorge Masvidal. Following that loss Askren was defeated by Demian Maia (via submission).
After the Maia loss Askren called it a day on his MMA career. His re-entry to fight sports comes after Paul called him (and many other fighters out) after his win over Robinson.
