More fallout from an apparent outbreak of COVID-19 positives from City Kickboxing fighters.
Several City Kickboxing members have been pulled from UFC events over the past few days, including a pair set to compete at UFC 260 this Saturday.
You already know the news by now that featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski will not defend his title versus Brian Ortega due to a positive COVID-19 test. Well unfortunately his teammate Shane Young, who was scheduled to face Omar Morales on the prelims, is also out due to COVID protocols per MMA reporter C. Contreras Legaspi.
It is not yet known if Young tested positive for the virus, but whatever the case he’s off the card.
On this past Saturday’s UFC Vegas 22 event, co-headliner Brad Riddell was pulled from his matchup with Gregor Gillespie, and during the broadcast Volkanovski’s removal from UFC 260 was announced. Riddell is Volkanovski’s striking coach at City Kickboxing and they’ve been traveling together in Las Vegas.
So at the moment there are just 10 fights on deck for UFC 260 and it’s very much worth noting that Jamie Mullarkey, who fights Khama Worthy on the main card, trained with Volkanovski and traveled with him from Australia to the United States. It’s possible we may see yet another cancellation soon.
