Longtime UFC middleweight contender Ronaldo Souza has managed to hang onto his spot on the 185-pound roster, getting called back to battle “Contender Series” standout Andre Muniz at the UFC 262 pay-per-view (PPV) event on May 15, expected for Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
That’s according to Brazilian reporter Raphael Marinho.
Souza (26-9, 1 NC) has dropped three straight and four of his last five, including his Dec. 2020 knockout loss to middleweight motormouth Kevin Holland. “Jacare” is now 41 and likely fighting for his job at UFC 262.
Muniz (20-4), who needed two wins on Dana White’s “Contender Series” to earn his spot among the middleweight elite, recently tapped Bartosz Fabinski at UFC Vegas 9 in Sept. 2020. “Sergipano” has racked up 13 submissions in 20 career victories.
UFC 262 will be headlined by the lightweight title fight pitting Michael Chandler against Charles Oliveira. Elsewhere on the card, Edson Barboza goes to war with Shane Burgos, while Jack Hermansson gets back on his horse against Edmen Shahbazyan.
