The Contender Series alum will no longer be competing at UFC 260.
UFC 260 has been hit with another fight cancellation.
The women’s strawweight fight between Hannah Goldy and Jessica Penne will not happen on Saturday night as Goldy tested positive for COVID-19. She made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon with an Instagram post.
“Life is crazy man,” wrote Goldy. “I literally can’t even believe I have to tell y’all that I won’t be fighting this Saturday. Flew out to Vegas and tested positive for COVID. I have never felt better, stronger or more complete. I was so ready to perform for y’all Saturday, unfortunately that was not God’s plan. I’ll be taking the necessary precautions and rescheduled as soon as I am healthy! I am so sorry guys.
“And I am so sorry [Jessica Penne] I have been looking forward to sharing the octagon with you. I will keep everyone updated. Thank you guys for all the support.”
The news of Goldy and Penne being off has since been confirmed by the UFC.
Penne has yet to respond to the fight cancelation, but the fight is expected to be kept in tact for another event. Per Nolan King of MMA Junkie, Goldy and Penne will be rebooked for an upcoming UFC event planned for April 17.
Goldy signed to the UFC following a successful appearance on Season 3 of Dana White’s Contender Series in June 2019. She made her promotional debut several months later at UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Lawler, where lost by way of unanimous decision to Miranda Granger. Back-to-back injuries have kept Goldy on the sidelines for longer than expected, and she will now have to wait a bit longer to make her official return.
Penne has not competed in nearly four years with her last fight coming against Danielle Taylor at UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Lobov, where she earned her third straight defeat. Penne later dealt with injuries and two separate suspensions by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) after testing positive for banned substances in 2017 and 2020 respectively, which almost forced her retirement from competition.
Penne became eligible to compete again in December 2020 after her second suspension was reduced from four years to 20 months.
UFC 260 will be headlined by a championship rematch between heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and No. 1 contender Francis Ngannou.
