Welterweight Vicente Luque expects the best version of former champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 260.

His opponent may be in the worst moment of his career, but welterweight contender Vicente Luque is not one to undermine anybody—let alone a former UFC champion. Paired up against Tyron Woodley for a main card bout at UFC 260, the ‘Silent Assassin’ promises he will take the fight as if the veteran were still in his prime.

In an interview with Ag Fight, Luque detailed how excited he is to take on a former UFC champion and that he feels well prepared for the challenge. Even though Woodley hasn’t won a single round in his past three outings, the Brazilian knows how dangerous the veteran is and plans to show how much he has evolved as a fighter when they meet on Saturday.

“I’m fighting an ex-champion. A guy who has dominated the division for a long time,” Luque explained. “I’m excited for the most important fight of my career. I can show my evolution in this fight, what I want to do in the division. I’m so excited. Woodley is in the worst moment of his career, but he lost to the best three in the world. I take that into consideration.

“If I think he’s done, I may give him the chance to win,” Luque continued. “I won’t underestimate him at all. I’ll be ready for champion Woodley. That aggressive one who finished fights. That’s the Woodley I want to fight and beat. I’m ready for his best version. I want to put on a show and score another knockout or submission.”

Currently on a two-fight winning streak, Vicente Luque (19-7-1) defeated both Niko Price and Randy Brown in his last outings. Before that, the 29-year-old had suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Stephen Thompson, back in November 2019.

UFC 260 goes down at the UFC Apex facility, on March 27, in Las Vegas, NV. The card is scheduled to be headlined by a rematch for the heavyweight title, between champion Stipe Miocic and challenger Francis Ngannou. Woodley vs. Luque is currently set for the co-main event.
