The martial arts fantasy trilogy was acquired by Sony Pictures Television and Original Film
Wesley Chu is a New York Times Bestselling author with ten books under his belt, but the next three figure to be the most lucrative yet. The War Arts Saga trilogy will be published from 2022-2024. The rights to the upcoming novels were acquired by Sony Pictures Television and Neal H. Mortiz’s Original Film.
Jason Ning, executor producer of Lucifer, has been tasked with writing the adaptation and working as the showrunner. Uta Briesewitz, a veteran of Westworld and Stranger Things, will direct and executive produce.
Set in the 2nd Century, the show is described by Deadline as, a “world where martial arts are magic, and a grandmaster takes a spoiled would-be hero under her wing to fulfill his destiny of defeating an immortal god-king and ending a centuries-long war.”
Chu won the Young Adult Library Services Association Alex Award with his debut The Lives of Tao. He also was a finalist for the Goodreads Choice Awards for Best Science Fiction.
His most recent novel, The Lost Book of the White, was published in September 2020. Written in partnership with Cassandra Clare, and set in the Shadowhunter universe, it focuses on Magnus Bane, a 400-year-old bisexual half-Asian warlock.
