The platform has removed 42 episodes from the JRE catalog to date.
Spotify—the Swedish audio streaming giant—continues to remove episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience from its platform.
According to Digital Music News, Spotify has removed 42 episodes of the comedian’s popular podcast from its catalog, including a recent episode with Dave Asprey, the founder of Bulletproof Coffee who refers to himself as the “father of biohacking.”
Asprey developed the Bulletproof diet, which recommends eating foods high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbohydrates—all characteristic which he claims make up the basis for Bulletproof Coffee. He promotes an “anti-aging” lifestyle and has stated that he expects to live to age 180. Despite his growing popularity, critics argue that his diet is unscientific and a “caricature of a bad fad-diet book.” Interestingly, Spotify has removed all three JRE episodes featuring Asprey.
Spotify previously removed seven JRE episodes featuring comedian Brian Redban, seven episodes with David Seaman, as well as four episodes with comedian Chris D’Elia, who was recently accused of sexually exploiting a minor and soliciting child pornography in a federal lawsuit.
The audio streaming giant has also removed episodes featuring far-right figures such as Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes and Milo Yiannopoulous, as well as conspiracy-monger Eddie Bravo.
Rogan addressed Spotify’s decision to delete select episodes during a recent episode with guest Fahim Anwar, stating that “there were a few episodes they didn’t want on their platform, and I was like ‘okay, I don’t care.’”
While Spotify may be taking quiet action against several dozen JRE episodes, Rogan himself remains a lightning rod of controversy. Since signing a $100 million exclusivity deal with Spotify, Rogan has falsely claimed that “left-wing people” started the wildfires in Oregon (which he later apologized for), stated that he doesn’t plan to take the COVID-19 vaccine because he didn’t feel he “needed it,” and criticized the transgender community.
