Maycee Barber and Miranda Maverick have agreed to fight this summer.
A prospect vs. prospect fight between two ranked flyweights is happening this summer.
Maycee Barber and Miranda Maverick have agreed to a fight scheduled for an upcoming UFC Fight Night event on July 24. The news was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN via UFC President Dana White and later confirmed by both women on their respective social media accounts.
Barber (8-2) made her promotional debut at UFC Fight Night: Korean Zombie vs. Rodriguez in 2018, after making a successful appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series. There she met Hannah Cifers and earned a second-round technical knockout. The next fight for Barber saw her make the move from strawweight to flyweight for a fight against JJ Aldrich, who she also defeated by second-round technical knockout.
Barber went on to win once more by way of stoppage — this time against Gillian Robertson — before falling to her next two opponents, Roxanne Modafferi and Alexa Grasso, in back-to-back appearances. The Grasso fight was her return to action after more than a year on the sidelines due to a knee injury suffered in the Modafferi fight.
Maverick (9-2) is currently riding a two-fight win streak since her arrival in the UFC last year. Following an impressive run under the Invicta FC banner, Maverick signed with the promotion and debuted against Liana Jojua at UFC 254. After some hellacious elbows that opened up a cut on the bridge of Jojua’s nose, the fight was stopped by the cage-side doctors and Maverick was declared the victor at the end of the first round.
Maverick had another breakout performance this past March at UFC 260, where she defeated the previously mentioned Robertson by unanimous decision.
There is no location or venue announced for this Fight Night card at the time of this writing. The only other scheduled fight for this card is a bantamweight clash between Aspen Ladd and Macy Chiasson.
