A battle of ranked lightweights appears to be set for May 8th.
Gregor Gillespie will apparently be making his long-awaited return to the cage on May 8th. Following a Covid scare on the day of his March fight with Brad Riddell that led to the bout being canceled, he has been booked instead to meet Diego Ferreira.
ESPN was the first to report the fight.
Gillespie (13-1, 6-1 UFC) picked up six straight wins to start his UFC career, but was nastily knocked out by a Kevin Lee head kick back in November 2019. He is currently ranked at number 15 at 155 pounds in the official UFC rankings.
Ferreira (17-3, 8-3 UFC) was also on a six-fight winning streak going into his last fight, but dropped a close split decision to Beneil Dariush in February. He did earn his second straight performance bonus for the bout though. Ferreira sits in the 12 spot in the lightweight rankings.
The May 8th card will take place in UFC Apex and will be headlined by a bantamweight fight between former champ T.J. Dillashaw and Cory Sandhagen. Diego Sanchez will also face off with Donald Cerrone at the event.
