Jan Blachowicz meets the No. 1 ranked light heavyweight in Glover Teixeira at UFC 266.
The second title defense for UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz has been made official for September.
Blachowicz will meet current No. 1 ranked contender Glover Teixeira at UFC 266. The news was announced by UFC President Dana White via Brett Okamoto of ESPN on Wednesday morning.
Blachowicz won the vacant championship just last year after knocking out Dominick Reyes in the second round of their fight at UFC 253. His first title defense came six months later at UFC 259 in a champion vs. champion super-fight between him and previously undefeated middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya.
Blachowicz successfully defended his championship after earning an unanimous decision over Adesanya, which saw his win streak extend to five.
Teixeira fought his way into title contention between 2019 and 2020 with five straight wins over some of the top names in the division. The Brazilian submitted both Karl Roberson and Ion Cutelaba in back-to-back appearances at UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs. Dillashaw and UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs. Hermansson respectively.
After earning a split decision victory over Nikita Krylov at UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Gaethje, Teixeira served as a headliner in his next two outings. He stopped Anthony Smith in the fifth round at UFC on ESPN+ 29 and submitted Thiago Santos at UFC on ESPN 17. Following those last two finishes, Teixeira called for a title shot against Blachowicz and was more than willing to wait for it to happen.
UFC 266 does not have a location or venue set at the time of this writing.
