Dana White says Colby Covington will fight the winner of Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal for the UFC welterweight title.

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington will be keeping a close eye on this weekend’s UFC 261 headliner between Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal, and for good reason.

‘Chaos’ will fight the winner for the official welterweight title, UFC president Dana White confirmed on Monday (h/t Clyde Aidoo of MMA News).

“(Usman’s) at a point in his career now where he’s looking at, ‘Who’s next again? He’s coming back and gonna be facing guys that he’s already beat. So obviously, Masvidal took that fight on short notice, so let’s give him this fight, and we can do away with all the excuses. And then, Colby Covington’s next,” White told TSN in an interview.

Covington rebounded from his 2019 TKO loss to Usman with a fifth-round stoppage win over former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley at UFC Vegas 11. The 33-year-old has been sat on the sidelines since, desperate to avenge his loss to ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

UFC 261: Usman vs. Masvidal 2 will take place this Saturday, April 24 at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
