Fights between old people are all the rage right now. MMA fighters crossing over into the ring against much better boxers is similarly popularly. Why not combine the two and have retired UFC legend Georges St. Pierre square off against Oscar De La Hoya, one of the greatest boxers of all time (who is also 48 years of age)?
Well, UFC President Dana White stands in opposition of the fight. Since St. Pierre is still under UFC contract, White has the final say on such matters, and it seems that not even a million dollar charity offer is enough for White to allow St. Pierre’s “dream come true” boxing match up.
When honey fails, turn to vinegar! De La Hoya, who has a longstanding feud with White, took the opportunity to both demand St. Pierre be allowed to compete and challenge White himself to a scrap. “@Danawhite Quit blocking @GeorgesStPierre’s chance to fight,” De La Hoya tweeted, “How about we get into the ring first little B*#ch then after I kick your ass, I’ll fight a real man #DeLaHoyaGSP #LetGSPFight”
Perhaps De La Hoya would have better luck (and fewer contractual roadblocks) convincing a Paul brother to step into the ring with him, because this sure seems like a case of spitting in the wind.
