Every two fights he has another two fights.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua is not retiring from MMA just because promotion president Dana White wants him to. In fact, “Shogun” believes he’s still in line for another two fights before calling it quits.

The Brazilian turns 40 in November.

“I must do two more fights and stop, that’s my goal,” Rua told Ag Fight (transcribed by Cole Shelton). “Do one or two more. And the moment I stop, I will be happy with myself and thankful to God. I’m an accomplished guy with my career. My only fear is to stop and then regret that I stopped a little early. But if I do two more, I won’t have this problem.”

Rua was recently stopped by Paul Craig at UFC 255.

Despite his most recent loss, Rua (27-12-1) is 5-2-1 dating back to his Ovince Saint Preux upset in late 2014 and would probably be best served drawing an opponent that is at or near his level of skill at this stage of his career.

Namely, someone not currently ranked in the Top 15.
