“I really think Tyron is going out there to take a dive. I think he’s broke. He needs the money”.
Colby Covington thinks Tyron Woodley will ‘take a dive’ against Jake Paul in their Aug. 28 boxing match, claiming that the former UFC welterweight champion is desperate for the money.
Covington, who beat Woodley via fifth-round TKO at UFC Fight Night 178, acknowledges ‘T-Wood’s’ great legacy as champ but believes the 39-year-old is now over the hill and potentially willing to sabotage his career against Paul.
“Make no mistakes – Tyron has a great legacy, but he’s picking these fights with guys that are kind of toward the end of their career,” Covington told MMA Junkie.
“But they’re doing this on purpose, and I really think Tyron is going out there to take a dive. I think he’s broke. He needs the money. So I think he’s just going to go out there and take a dive. So this little side circus they’re doing with Jake Paul, of course, they’re going to favor his way to make it a work.”
Woodley will take on Paul at a Showtime Sports event on August 28 in Miami, Florida.
Covington, meanwhile, will challenge Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title sometime later this year. UFC president Dana White confirmed the matchup earlier this week but didn’t reveal where — or when — the fight will take place. Usman previously beat Covington via fifth-round TKO at UFC 245.
