A light heavyweight battle is going to top a Fight Night event in September
The UFC is continuing to piece together their summer and fall events, and one on September 18th will be headlined by an important light heavyweight bout. Former title challenger Anthony Smith with lock horns with prospect Ryan Spann.
Smith himself mentioned the fight as he was doing pre-fight analysis for UFC Vegas 28 this past weekend, and MMA Fighting has subsequently confirmed the booking.
Smith (35-16, 10-6 UFC) has rebounded from a couple of 2020 setbacks nicely, submitting Devin Clark last November and taking an injury TKO win over Jimmy Crute in April. He’s is currently the sixth-ranked contender at 205 pounds in the official UFC rankings.
Spann (19-6, 5-1 UFC) bounced back from his first UFC loss at the hands of Johnny Walker to take out Misha Cirkunov in just 71 seconds in March, earning his first performance bonus in the process. Spann is ranked at number 11 at light heavyweight.
The promotion has not decided where the event will take place as of yet, and there are no other major bouts attached to it as of today.
