Jan Blachowicz sent a clear message to former champ Jon Jones.
A Lannister always pays his debts, but what about former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones?
Jones had promised to fight Blachowicz before vacating his light heavyweight title last year but the pound-for-pound king appears to have moved on from the idea of ever competing at light heavyweight again.
Not to worry, though, as Blachowicz is more than happy to fight Jones at heavyweight if the JacksonWink product is unwilling to return to 205 pounds.
“Of course, I can beat him at heavyweight,” Blachowicz told retired UFC welterweight Mike Swick on the ‘Real Quick with Mike Swick’ podcast (h/t Kenny Lee of MMA News). “We can do this extra fight — not for the [heavyweight] title if he wants — no problem for me. I am going to be ready.”
Blachowicz is a champion with a duty to defend his light heavyweight title but the Pole says fighting Jones is a top priority for him right now — with or without a UFC belt on the line.
“He promised me this fight and I will not stop talking about this, after when I beat Corey [Anderson], he promised me this fight,” Blachowicz said. “So he has to keep his word and let’s go, let’s do this. … Anywhere, any weight. I will catch him somewhere in the future.”
Blachowicz most recently defended his title with a unanimous decision victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 259 and is set to return to the Octagon against Glover Teixeira at UFC 266 on Sept. 25 at a TBA location.
