The Countdown show for the highly anticipated UFC 264 is here and it gives you all the past and present drama surrounding the Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier trilogy fight.
After a weekend with no UFC events to give their hardworking employees a nice 4th of July off, UFC returns on July 10th with one of their biggest shows of the year: UFC 264, headlined by the rubber match between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor. And of course the UFC has an epic ‘Countdown to UFC 264’ episode for you to show all your friends and get them hyped.
You know the story: McGregor wrecked Poirier back in September of 2014. Poirier returned the favor in January of 2021. Now just shy of six months later we’ll see if Conor McGregor has made enough adjustments to win the third fight between the two. The Countdown show does a great job of walking you through the violent histories of both men, and honestly, it’s worth the tune in just to watch Poirier and McGregor wreck their way through the 145 and 155 pound divisions.
Also featured in the Countdown to UFC 264 episode: the welterweight showdown between Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson and Gilbert Burns. Thompson continues to be overlooked as a contender for the welterweight title, but it’ll be impossible to ignore him if he takes out Burns, who in turn came pretty damn close to taking out Kamaru Usman early in their title war.
Burns is looking to turn around from that defeat and re-establish himself in the division. It’s guaranteed to be an intense battle, with Burns always pushing the pace and giving opponents little room to execute their own gameplan.
