Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado are here to breakdown this Saturday’s, July 10th, ‘UFC 264: Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor 3’ event. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event.

Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are here tonight – Saturday, July 10th., 2021, to breakdown the UFC 264: ‘Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor 3’ event, which was broadcast from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada – with a full capacity live crowd. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event in the player above, or on our Bloody Elbow Presents YouTube Channel and BE Presents Podcast Network. (SPOILERS…)

The UFC showcased the big trilogy fight tonight! It was predicted to be an all out battle for bragging rights between fight veterans Dustin Poirier & Conor McGregor in the main event and Gilbert Burns vs. Stephen Thompson in the co-main event.

Returning to the octagon for that main event, we had Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier, entering the bout with a remarkable 27-6 record. The former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion, was currently ranked #1 in the UFC lightweight rankings and #6 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings, with the most knockouts in UFC Lightweight History at 8 tonight. Poirier was banging it out in this lightweight tilt against ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor – for the third time around. McGregor, the former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight double-champion was currently at #5 in the UFC lightweight rankings and entered the bout with his equally impressive, 22-5 record.

Outcome: Poirier basically dominated the first round, stating Conor “broke his leg on a check early on”; Conor leaned back on it and it gave way in a gnarly twist beneath him, says he “Anderson Silva’d it”. Doctor Stoppage TKO at the end of the first round due to a broken. ankle. And that was all they wrote, folks. Over, just like that. It didn’t stop the Sh*t-talking though, Conor had plenty to say. Dustin stayed classy. Looks like we will be doing this all over again down the line.

In the co-main event, we had a Welterweight scrap between #4 ranked, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, one of the most accomplished strikers in UFC history, and his opponent, #2 ranked, expert grappler, Gilbert ‘Durinho’ Burns. Thompson was coming at this on a 2-fight win streak, defeating Geoff Neal & Vicente Luque, with a current 16-4 record, Meanwhile, Burns was coming off a loss to Kamaru Usman, with an impressive 19-4 record.

Outcome: Burns grinds out a decision win showing off his grappling prowess against ‘Wonderboy’, and takes the opportunity to call out Masvidal.

Also on the card, we had a Heavyweight bout between Tai Tuivasa & Greg Hardy, a Bantamweight bout between Irene Aldana & Yana Kunitskaya, preceded by our main card opener: a battle between Bantamweights ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley & Kris Moutinho.

Notable Outcomes: Tuivasa pounded Hardy down in no time flat and celebrated with a ‘Shoey’. Aldana was a savage against Kunitskaya, putting her away with some vicious ground and pound in the first round. O’Malley got a stoppage with a newcomer, Moutinho, who had a lot of heart and likely earned some fans tonight putting his all into trying to win that fight.

Our featured prelim was between Welterweights Max ‘Pain’ Griffin & Carlos ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Condit, as part of our extensive 8-bout undercard. What a wild night full of fights we have to share with you!

This week the guys’ picks heading into the event were…

Both: Poirier
Both: Thompson
Both: Tuivasa
Zane: Aldana, Eddie: Kunitskaya

Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Tai Tuivasa & Dricus Du Plessis (Irene Aldana will also get a bonus per Dana White at presser); FOTN honors went to O’Malley vs. Moutinho. What a night of fights we have to share with you, join us to discuss all the action…
