Poirier claimed McGregor pulled off some illegal moves during their fight.

Dustin Poirier is now 2-1 versus Conor McGregor. Last night at UFC 264 the American was able to control the Irishman for the first round before an ankle injury took McGregor out of the contest.

During the short fight Poirier had the beating of McGregor both on the feet and on the ground. And it was on the ground that, according to Poirier, McGregor resorted to some illegal moves in order to try and get back into the fight.

At the post-fight press conference Poirier alleged that McGregor was grabbing his gloves.

“I let him up because he had three fingers in my glove, the cuff of the tape, so it’s a good grip, and he’s pulling me down into up-kicks. He’s pulling me down and kicking up at the same time. I’m not surprised that he does that kind of stuff.”

Poirier said he complained about the move to referee Herb Dean. “I was telling Herb, I can’t get out of it!”

Poirier added that, when he told Dean about what was happening he thinks McGregor might have pulled his fingers out of his glove.

This isn’t the first time McGregor has been accused of grabbing gloves. In his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in 2018 an eagle-eyed reddit user (TheMountainIII) noticed McGregor grabbing the Dagestani’s shorts and glove during the bout.
