Poirier’s next fight will be for the 155-pound belt and sportsbooks are picking him to unseat the reigning champ.

Dustin Poirier just won his second consecutive fight against Conor McGregor last night at UFC 264 (watch highlights) and already people are looking forward to his next bout against Lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira.

UFC President, Dana White, confirmed that Poirier would fight for the title next, and it looks like sportsbooks like what they’re seeing from “The Diamond” lately because they have him a favorite over the new 155-pound champion. In odds just released by BetOnline.ag, the lines sit with Poirier at -180 and Oliveira at +155.

The disrespect to the champ!

Oliveira won the vacant Lightweight championship with a second round technical knockout win over Michael Chandler at UFC 262 in May 2021. That win came after an impressive eight-fight win streak that spanned back to 2018, a nearly unheard of feat in a division as tough as Lightweight. But, his latest wins over Kevin Lee, Tony Ferguson and Chandler apparently aren’t earning him as much cred as you might think with the bookies.

Poirier is now best known for his two big wins over McGregor, but barring that one-sided mauling at the hands of Khabib Nurmagomedov in Sept. 2019 he’s been nearly unbeatable at 155 pounds. He also holds impressive wins over Dan Hooker, Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje, among others. Oliveira may have the streak, but Poirier has beaten the cream of the crop in the division.

No timeline has been set for a title fight but reports have Oliveira hoping for a December return. Who are you picking to win, Maniacs?
