For Daniel Cormier, interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane could run into some “problems” against Jon Jones.

Newly-minted UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane has earned nothing but praise for his UFC 265 win over Derrick Lewis. Still undefeated with a 10-0 record, “Bon Amin” got the job done mostly through his versatility and athleticism.

Indeed, a fighter of Gane’s style and movement is something rare in the heavyweight division. But according to ex-double-champ Daniel Cormier, one other fighter that could pose problems is none other than his former rival.

As he told ESPN co-host Ryan Clark:

You know who I do believe has the best chance to beat him? And this will get crazy, coming from me… Jon Jones!

Jon Jones is the guy that would present the most problems to Cyril Gane. Why? Because Jon Jones has fought at 205, Jon Jones has the skill of a little guy, Jon Jones has seen athletes before.

Jon Jones beat me twice. I’m an athlete. He’s seen the speed, he’s seen the foot movement and the angles. He’s had to deal with guys like that before.

Now, can he handle that at a weight class above? I don’t know. But I truly believe that Jones is one of the guys that truly can give Cyril Gane problems. But I don’t know who beats him. I think Francis has his hands full.

Jones expects to make his heavyweight debut sometime in 2022. Nothing has been made certain about his first opponent, but Team “Bones” already rejected a potential matchup with former champion Stipe Miocic.
