It’s all fun and games until McGregor actually gets Daniel Cormier angry.
Following his bad leg break loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, Conor McGregor has been lashing out on social media at all sorts of people. The strangest beef involves fellow former champ champ Daniel Cormier, who had some opinions on McGregor’s classless attacks on Poirier’s wife and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father.
For those reasonable and honestly quite mild statements, McGregor has been tweet-n-delete trolling Cormier, making comments about being overweight and recently going on a rant trying to shame “DC” for drinking during a UFC 264 weigh-in show bit.
Cormier seems more confused and amused than anything else about the whole situation, which is lucky for McGregor. As we learned with Jake Paul, Cormier won’t hesitate to get in your face if you actually start to annoy him. And if “DC” did decide to get physical, well … as Michael Bisping noted on a recent podcast, it wouldn’t be good for McGregor.
“Careful what you wish for. Careful who you’re picking fights with,” Bisping said on his ‘Believe You Me’ show. “Because I’m not disrespecting Conor McGregor, but I don’t care what Conor McGregor it is, whether it’s double-champ Conor McGregor (or what). DC is gonna f*cking pull you limb from limb.”
“He could do it one-handed, he could do it with one eye, two eyes, no eyes. He could do it after 25 Modelos. That ain’t a fight. That is murder, that is assault, somebody call the cops!”
It’ll be interesting to see how far McGregor continues to carry this feud with Cormier. It doesn’t make any sense. It doesn’t hype any one up. It’s not exactly a good look for the Irish sports star.
But with little else to do that’s MMA related other than rehab his leg and mess around on social media, I expect we’ll see more of this kind of stuff. And considering how willing McGregor is to bring family stuff into the trash, maybe he will say something that Cormier isn’t going to laugh off.
