Former middleweight contender Jacare Souza took a look back on his career and shared his biggest regret.

Former Strikeforce champion and UFC contender Ronaldo Souza is happy with his career now that he has officially retired from the sport. However, ‘Jacare’ still has one regret about the choices he made during his UFC run, especially regarding the title shot he was never able to secure.

In an interview with Ag Fight, Souza explained how he should have been more patient and waited for his shot instead of taking fights. While the Brazilian is proud of his career, waiting for his title shot is the one thing he would change, if he could turn back the clock.

“I had a good run. I was very well paid in the UFC. I had great fights. I spent seven years at the top of the middleweight division. I didn’t have a chance to fight for the title, but I did what I could. Now it is time to rest my body and mind.”

“We weren’t smart enough to wait for our moment.” Jacare continued. ”I’m sure of that. We didn’t wait for the moment. The moment was going to come, but we didn’t wait for it. We put in the work. We got where we needed to, we did what we had to do, but we couldn’t wait for it.”

Souza (26-10-1 NC) retired from the sport on a four-fight losing streak, the last of which came as a submission defeat to Andre Muniz, in which Jacare suffered a broken arm. During his career, the 41-year-old picked up wins over some of the most notable names in mixed martial arts, including Chris Weidman, Vitor Belfort, Gegard Mousasi and Robbie Lawler.
