The women’s flyweight matchup would take place on December 11.
A women’s flyweight matchup is on deck for what figures to be the UFC’s final pay-per-view of 2021.
Montana De La Rosa told MMA Junkie that she will take on Maycee Barber at UFC 269 on December 11th. No location has been announced but it’s believed that the event will be in Las Vegas.
Barber (9-2) was touted as a major prospect and she had visions of becoming the youngest champion in UFC history. Obviously it didn’t work out that way for the 23-year-old, as her bright 3-0 start in the UFC gave way to consecutive losses to Roxanne Modafferi and Alexa Grasso. She’s coming off a controversial split decision over fellow prospect Miranda Maverick in July, with most believing Miranda deserved the win.
De La Rosa (12-6-1) is coming off a second-round TKO of Ariane Lipski at UFC Vegas 28 in June. She’d previously fought to a draw with Mayra Bueno Silva and had also lost a decision to Viviane Araujo. The latest UFC rankings have De La Rosa at #15 and Barber just two spots ahead of her.
UFC 269 is expected to include a lightweight title fight between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier, as well as women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes against Julianna Pena.
