UFC Vegas 36: ‘Brunson vs Till’ | 6th Round Post-Fight Show

Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are here tonight – Saturday, September 4th., 2021, to breakdown the UFC Vegas 36: ‘Derek Brunson vs. Darren Till’ event, which was broadcast from the cozy confines of the Apex Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After undergoing thirteen fight cancellations for this card, the UFC featured a Middleweight showdown where the wrestler met up with the Muay Thai specialist in the main event of tonight’s Fight Night card. It was anticipated to be a worthwhile bout to catch, between fight veteran, former Strikeforce and TUF alum, number 5-ranked middleweight, Derek Brunson, who was sporting a 22-7 record, and former welterweight, the number 9-seeded middleweight from Liverpool, Darren ‘The Gorilla’ Till with his 18-3 record.

Main Event Outcome:

Brunson absolutely dominated the entire fight, clearly taking every round; Till did his best to offer up a defense, but he was just no match for Derek’s tremendous wrestling finesse. Till ate a lot of hard shots and spent a decent amount of time on his back throughout this fight. In the third round, Till finally submitted to a smothering Rear-Naked Choke from Brunson. Derek immediately called out for a fight with Israel Adesanya, stating he is making a push for the title. Five wins in a row now, he is on his way.

For the co-main event, we had a Heavyweight brawl between hot prospects Tom Aspinall and Sergey Spivak. Aspinall, currently ranked #13, on a six-fight win streak would face off against the ‘Polar Bear’, former WWFC Heavyweight Champion, who was on his own win streak – with three ‘W’’s currently under his belt. Aspinall is touted to be a future UFC Champion, and was the oddsmakers favorite heading into this bout.

Co-Main Outcome:

Aspinall showed off his skill set with fast hands and agility. No sooner were we assessing these skills and it was all over, he landed a terrific elbow that rocked Spivak down to the ground against the cage. Aspinall swiftly put an end to it by following up with a flurry of ground strikes, at just two and a half minutes into the first round, having never taken a shot. He continues his 100% finishing rate. Aspinall calls out anyone above him in the rankings.

Also on the card, we had a Welterweight bout between the German brawler, David ‘Sagat’ Zawada and Alex ‘The Great White’ Morono, a Light Heavyweight bout between up-and-comers Khalil ‘The War Horse’ Rountree and Modestas ‘The Baltic Gladiatior’ Bukauskas, a long-awaited, well-hyped UFC debut bout for former Cage Warriors Featherweight Champion, Liverpool’s Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett against Brazilian, Luigi ‘The Italian Stallion’ Vendramini… and a couple hot prelim bouts between ‘Fire Fist’ Ji Yeon Kim and the UK’s ‘Meatball’ Molly McCann in our featured prelim, as well as a highly anticipated scrap between Julian ‘Juicy J’ Erosa and Charles ‘Air’ Jourdain earlier down the card.

Notable Outcomes:

Zawada v.s Morono was a highly competitive fight for all three rounds, plenty of uppercuts traded and counter attacks from both men throughout. After going the distance, the but ends in Unanimous Decision to Morono (30-27×3). Hmm, I was kinda expecting it to be a Split decision, but I am no fight expert – just a fan who produces podcasts, among other things around here, Zane and Eddie had this to say…

Khalil came out in a ferocious effort in the first round, striking the fear into Modestas, settled in and found his pace and kept wearing Modestas down, until finally taking him out of the bout with a wicked side kick to the knee in the second round. Bukauskas was removed from he octagon on a stretcher and will likely need a decent amount of recovery time after at least one or more surgeries for that knee injury. The UFC Dr. on scene indicated post-bout to Bisping that it was likely a torn ACL, PCL & MCL! Brutal.

In our Main Card Opener, Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett did not disappoint in his UFC debut! He let loose with speed and ferocity and pummeled Luigi with kicks and power strikes raining down hard, not letting up at all, right up until the stoppage he just kept coming, winning via KO/TKO Hooks in the FIRST ROUND – just like he promised! This is one POTN you HAVE to watch if you missed it! This charismatic showman says he is ready to take on any comers as soon as they want, even claiming he is ready to handle a co-main or main event, and bring down the house.

The powerhouse fellow Liverpool teammate, Molly McCann, went the distance in an all out banger against Ji Yeon Kim for a Unanimous hard-fought Decision win. It was an impressive FOTN showing for both women; but Molly gave it her all and got the big win to close out our featured prelim and launch us with an adrenaline burst into the main card.

Jack ‘Tank’ Shore is now 15-0 undefeated, and he is most definitely one to be watched, he ought to be rising in the rankings after this performance.

In a frantic fight right from the get go, Julian Erosa managed to hold his own against Canadian Charles Jourdain, but ultimately Erosa choked the ‘Air’ out of Jourdain in the third round, via D’Arce Choke Submission. If you missed this one, it is definitely a bout to go back and catch, great MMA action from start to finish.

Overall, this now dwindled down 9-bout card saw two exhilarating first round finishes, three impressive KO/TKO’s, two sweet submissions (including our main event), and four hard-fought decisions. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Paddy Pimblett and Tom Aspinall; FOTN honors went to Molly McCann & Ji Yeon Kim.
