Only one guy actually landed something.
Usually some press conference pushing and shoving doesn’t amount to anything interesting. For Tuesday’s Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant presser in Los Angeles, there proved to be an exception to the rule.
Plant, the IBF champion, called Canelo a “cheater” during the presser — referencing Alvarez’s failed drug test for clenbuterol back in 2017 — and later told him “suck my d—k.”
At the end of proceedings, the two super-middleweight champions had their first of several faceoffs. Alvarez shoved Plant backwards, and Plant responded by trying to slap Alvarez with his left hand. He missed, and Canelo responded with his own slap and maybe a punch as well. Whatever the case, Canelo clearly landed before they were separated and now Plant is dealing with a cut under his right eye.

They are now tending to Caleb Plant, who has a cut under his right eye. Just in case anyone thought the skirmish w/ Canelo was staged. These two truly do not like each other. #CaneloPlant pic.twitter.com/5nhcy9YkV8

I guess these two really don’t like each other.
The undisputed title fight is on November 6th in Las Vegas, so ideally that cut heals up and Plant can train properly without having to postpone this event. If by any chance we just witnessed a bout getting pushed back because of press conference shenanigans… then that’s just classic boxing and combat sports in general, isn’t it?
