Canelo said something nice about the Pauls.
According to Jake Paul, fighting Canelo Alvarez is his ultimate goal in his current boxing venture.
The 4-0 YouTuber turned fighter has said on many occasions that he believes he is capable of one day beating the consensus best boxer on the planet. Throughout Paul foray into combat sports, Alvarez has bristled whenever he or his brother have been mentioned.
Last December Alvarez said he thought the Paul brothers lacked respect for the sport and that they were only interested in prize-fighting for the prizes. He also sought to remind the brothers that boxing is “very risky” and invited them to spar him so he could show them “what it’s all about”.
The Paul brothers’ presence in boxing has grown exponentially since then, with Logan Paul fighting Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition and Jake Paul defeating former MMA champions Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley.
TMZ Sports recently caught up with Alvarez at his press conference for his upcoming fight with Caleb Plant. Predictably, he was again asked about the Pauls. Specifically, he was asked if he was impressed by Jake’s skills.
“It’s hard to say that,” responded Alvarez (ht bjpenn). “But maybe it’s good for boxing, (bringing in) another audience. We don’t know, but it is what it is.”
Hardly a ringing endorsement, but definitely a change of tune.
Alvarez is expected to face Plant on November 6. At that same press conference the pair needed to be separated after a shove from Alvarez resulted in actual punches being thrown.
