UFC Vegas 40 results and video: Dumont wins in lackluster fashion, Miller scores big KO

UFC Vegas 40 is in the books, and it was an up-and-down show. The prelims featured some nice finishes and Jim Miller picked up a surprising knockout victory on the main card. Not much else delivered though.

Here’s a look at how things went down.

Norma Dumont defeated Aspen Ladd via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47)

This is not good. In fact, it was one of the worst main events of 2021. Ladd was totally inactive for most of the first three rounds, with Dumont landing her jab whenever she wanted to but not doing much more. Following the third round, Ladd’s coach told her that she was down 3-0 and had no idea what she was doing. This seemed to at least motivate her a bit, though she was still doing little until the last minute of the fourth. She desperately tried for a takedown in the fifth, but just spent most of the time against the cage. Easy Dumont win, but it doesn’t inspire much confidence for either as a featherweight contender.

Andrei Arlovski defeated Carlos Felipe via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

As expected, these two men engaged in a dog fight. It wasn’t always pretty, but they went the distance in a very close bout. Arlovski took the first, the second was pretty even, and Felipe had Arlovski hurt late in the third but couldn’t finish it. In the end, it wasn’t enough for Felipe as the ageless Arlovski picks up his fourth win in his last five fights.

Jim Miller defeated Erick Gonzalez via KO (punches), :14 of round two

This fight was a lot of fun. Gonzalez clipped Miller early and had his opponent hurt. He took him down, but Miller persevered when he got tagged again and got his own takedown. Miller took over on the feet over the latter half of the round, clipping Gonzalez over and over. Early in the second, Miller landed a bomb of a left hand that sent Gonzalez to the mat, and it was over just like that. Miller set the record for most fights with 38, picked up his 22nd win, and his first knockout in a long time. Amazing.

Manon Fiorot defeated Mayra Bueno Silva via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)

This one was pretty much all Fiorot. The first two rounds saw her throw a ton of offense at her opponent, who didn’t have much in return. She knocked Bueno Silva down with a side kick to the belly late in the first. The third round saw Fiorot look to grapple a little more, getting a couple of takedowns and continuing to win on the feet. Easy decision, and Fiorot is now 3-0 in the UFC.

Nate Landwehr defeated Ludovit Klein via submission (Anaconda choke), 2:22 of round 3

Following a very tepid first round that featured a bunch of work against the cage, Landwehr took over in the second and looked to lock up a choke. He couldn’t get it, but persevered in the third and tied Klein up in an anaconda, giving him no choice but to tap. Landwehr moves to 2-2 in his UFC tenure and picks up his first career submission victory.
