Strikeforce women’s middleweight (145 lbs) champion Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos (10-1) has been in negotiations with Strikeforce for some time now. Santos is looking to get paid like every other champion in the organization, while Strikeforce is apparently looking to pay her something much less.
An article from CagePotato.com says the champ is now a free agent and is close to signing with a new promotion.
Not so says Tatame.com, who spoke with ‘Cyborg’s’ manager Rudimar Fedrigo who had this to say about the situation. “We’re still negotiating, the financial part is the point, but, meanwhile, she’s set to fight in Brazil and is negotiating two more fights in Singapore.”
Santos had her last fight just over a year ago on June 26, stopping Jan Finney by knockout with a knee to the body at the Fedor vs. Werdum event. That win was the last fight on her contract, leaving her subject to the champion’s clause, meaning Strikeforce had exclusive rights for one year to renegotiate a new contract with the Brazilian.
Since then ‘Cyborg’ has sat waiting for things to work out. She has been keeping busy though by working on her Jiu-Jitsu. She recently competed at the 2011 World Jiu-Jitsu Championships as a Purple Belt, earning a Gold Medal in her category at the California tournament.
Now it appears the 145 lb champion will take the show on the road, she is expected to take her first fight on Aug. 6 in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
