The bad blood between BMF champion Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards is still running deep two years after the talented Welterweights got into a backstage brawl at UFC Fight Night 47 in London, England.
According to Masvidal, though, things could have gotten a bit messier after he revealed during a recent interview on “The MMA Hour” that “Rocky” initially thought about pressing charges on him for assault.
“He was saying assault and he originally wanted to call the cops on me, but what would’ve happened? That wouldn’t have looked good for his brand and ‘I’m such a tough guy,’ the thing that he’s trying to proclaim. So that’s when he didn’t want to call the cops,” said Masvidal via Talk Sport.
“But originally they wanted to press charges on me when you started this f***ing altercation,” Masvidal continued.
Masvidal is still irked by the fact that Edwards tried to steal his shine after scoring a big knockout win over Darren Till.
“I’m here doing my own interview, doing my thing, I just got Fight of the Night, I just got Knockout of the Night, and I don’t give a f*** about you, Edwards – why are you ruining my interview? This is my time to shine – you’re trying to steal that, you’re trying to talk s***.
Masvidal says the only reason Edwards even decided to interfere in his interview was to try and get some clout since no one was talking about his won win that night against Gunnar Nelson.
“Nobody gives a f*** about you in your own hometown. You just had a fight that night, nobody was even talking about his fight because it was so boring. And he’s just a clout chaser. That’s always what he’s been.”
The promotion has been trying to book a fight between them ever since, but both went on to compete several times against other top contenders, with Masvidal having fought for the 170-pound title twice against Kamaru Usman, coming up short in both bids.
As for Edwards, he will look to finally stamp his ticket to the big dance and get some revenge on “Gamebred” when they finally get to settle their beef in the center of the cage at UFC 269 on Dec. 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
